The East Baton Rouge Parish School System Exceptional Student Services offers a wide variety of programs that are destined to provide quality education, which will allow all students to function at their highest potential in a complex and changing society by utilizing accommodative learning opportunities. Opportunities for a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) are provided to students beginning at the preschool level (ages 3 to 5) and continuing through the age of 21. Placement and services flow from the needs of the students identified through a referral process that includes a multidisciplinary evaluation (MDE) which provides the foundation for the development of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) prior to making a placement decision for participation in one or more of the Special Education programs.Programs are designed to meet the needs of the individual and range from classes for those identified as high functioning to those necessitating community-based settings. Modifications and accommodations are used as needed to address the functioning level of the student while addressing state benchmarks and standards.
