Cy-T.E.C.H.

Tara High’s CY-T.E.C.H. Academy is an East Baton Rouge Magnet Public “School within a School”. All incoming 9th graders residing within East Baton Rouge Parish are encouraged to apply. Through a partnership with The East Baton Rouge Parish School System, Baton Rouge Community College, and IBM, Tara High School provides students the opportunity to graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science.

What is the Cy-T.E.C.H. Magnet Academy?

The Cy-T.E.C.H. Magnet Academy is a school-based program designed after Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) model, which combines high school, college and the professional world. This school-within-a-school encompasses grades 9 to 14. With the promise that students in this six-year time frame, students earn not only a high school diploma, but also an Associate in Computer Science degree in Software Development from Baton Rouge Community College. Graduates will have the skills and experience to step into well-paying jobs in Information Technology (IT) and earn an opportunity to interview with IBM.

 

  • Be on grade-level
  • Complete an interest survey
  • Participate in a parent/guardian interview
  • Agree to be mentored by a pre-selected advisor
  • Commit to the summer bridge programs and college coursework
  • Each student will Earn an Associate’s Degree – from BRCC at no cost at the end of the program
  • Each student receives an IBM Industry Partner as a mentor to guide them along the Cy-TECH Magnet journey
  • Each student will matriculate through an Innovative High School Experience that includes Summer Bridge Programs and Internship Opportunities
  • Priority Interviewing with IBM for the Application Development Programmer Specialist position

BRCC

Students who go through this program obtain a high school diploma as well as an Associate’s degree in a Computer Science from Baton Rouge Community College.
